Life as a single mum

So I’ve been doing my normal morning thing. Plaiting hair, making packed lunches, changing sheets. I’ve paired up socks and dug crisp packets out the heating vents. I’ve retrieved three pairs of knickers from the trampoline and scraped five dog poos up off the lawn. One looked like it was giving me the finger, just to be extra offensive.

The best easter break ever

So the holidays are over. It’s taken seven years of being a parent, but I can honestly say, for the first time, that I was gutted to pack my gang back off to school. My genius children have finally embraced the art of loafing about. It was wonderful to see. Limbs spread lazily over the sofa, mouths gaped wide open as they lay, engrossed in Thundercats, a half eaten brioche dangling from their pudgy fingers… the dog stalking each movement. This has never ever happened before.

Why retro toys rule

So having three girls, I think it’s very important to not make them too ‘girly’. I don’t want three princesses, and I bloody hate pink. Apart from Frozen, which I am sure is full of subliminal messages to make everyone obsessed with it, they don’t do ‘and they lived happily ever after’ stuff. They prefer to be outside making camps, muddy potions and lots of mess.
